Ancient Chinese Acupuncture

!: Ancient Chinese Acupuncture

Ancient Chinese Acupuncture dates back to more than five thousand years ago. This form of therapy is likely to have developed after massage and acupressure therapies. It is done using needles that are inserted on the systemic meridians.

Ancient Chinese Acupuncture was used treat injuries and lesions. This was the specialty of acupuncturists. The acupuncturist of China considered this valuable skill of theirs to treat people with inabilities. This was to enable them to keep on working. Other acupuncturists still appreciate this school of thought.

The medicine of China is a Daoist creation that looked at the nature pattern so as to understand the human body, spirit and mind. The transformation of seasons, the growth of plants, and the flow of water inspired early Daoist, sagacious and doctors. The disease process of the human body was studied with the external natural events and it was observed that both these processes are the same. Instant floods can ruin the crops, and drinking too much water during a meal can spoil the digestion process. On the other hand, drought can lead to fire just like dry cough can turn into the fire of bloody cough as well as fever.

Scientist agree that ancient Chinese acupuncture works in many ways that are unknown. Most of research have shown that this form of therapy consistently triggers the release of a considerable amount of endorphins. It is the best way to cure blood pressure and improve blood circulation. It is also the aid to trigger the body's self-repairing system when its immunity becomes low.

Pfaltzgraff Love - Tips to Complete Your Dinnerware Collection

!: Pfaltzgraff Love - Tips to Complete Your Dinnerware Collection

Pfaltzgraff china fans are passionate. They love their dinnerware patterns. Dish lovers of all kinds understand when Pfaltzgraff owners change out their kitchen cabinets, bringing in their spring, summer, fall or winter china patterns when the season change, like the rest of us ordinary folks change our clothes closets.

Dishies understand, too, about owning several sets of china.

Some Pfaltzgraff lovers have decorated their kitchens with their special patterns, right down to the rugs, the breadbox and the light switch plates.

People who enjoy Pfaltzgraff appreciate the classic patterns and sturdy manufacture of the stoneware. This china was American made for many years, and there are collectors seeking out the ware from around 1990 and earlier, similar to those who seek out the older Fiesta by Homer Laughlin.

In popular patterns like Yorktown, Tea Rose, Heritage and Winterberry, Pfaltzgraff has made hundreds of different accessory pieces over the years to go with the dinnerware, including flatware, storage canisters, cookware, plastic ware and other accessories.

Yes, even rugs, wallpaper borders and switch plates.

However, if you own some of the less popular, discontinued stoneware patterns like Valley View or Mountain Shadow, or the fine china in patterns like Yuletide or Secrets that were made briefly in the late 1980s or early 1990s, then you have your work cut out for you to complete or add to your table settings.

How can you find more of your cherished china?

Internet-based retail outlets are a great place to look. A Google search on Pfaltzgraff and the pattern name should bring you listings on eBay, Bonanzle and many other web-based retail outlets. Some websites have Want It Now or registries, where you can sign up for email notification when more of your discontinued dinnerware pattern arrives. Websites can also help you connect with locally available stock. Classifieds ads on newspaper websites or on CraigsList allow people to advertise items they have for sale. Sellers may not want to ship china, and someone in your area may have exactly what you're looking for. People who want to downsize and give away china they're not longer using may post on FreeCycle, a network of free online membership groups that you can subscribe to, based on where you live. These groups are available in many metropolitan areas, and can also be found by a Google search using terms FreeCycle and your city name. Traditional, local sources like thrift stores, rummage and garage sales, are also a good source, if you have time and a pair of sturdy walking shoes. The biggest danger here may be the other tempting wares you'll find along the way.

No matter which Pfaltzgraff patterns you enjoy, there's nothing so satisfying as finding those last two dinner plates, fruit bowls, or the stove top salt and pepper shakers you're been needing to complete your set.

Wall Tiles - Decorative Entrance

!: Wall Tiles - Decorative Entrance

One of the most common wall tiles is ceramic. Ceramic tiles have been made by man over 4,000 years ago. They have been found in the pyramids, the ruins of Babylon, and ancient Greek cities. They displayed beautiful sculptures of that period of time.

Ceramic tile is made from a mixture of clays that are fired on high temperatures and then are generally glazed. They are used to add beautiful accents to your walls and your surroundings.

Wall tiles are more durable then any other wall covering. They are easy to clean, stain resistant to most acids, not effected by oxygen and easy to maintain. You can put wall tiles in any room that you need easily maintainable surfaces. They help create a sense of freshness and tranquility.

They are available in a wide range of design, color, materials and patterns. Some of the materials are ceramic, porcelain, limestone, metal, slate, marble, granite, cork and glass. There are many sizes, shapes and decorative techniques that are used for you're choosing.

Before purchasing the tiles you must measure and make certain you buy enough for your surface. Proper preparation makes it easy to install yourself. There are many professionals that can install the wall tiles if the "do it yourself " does not work for you.
You must make sure you have everything at hand before you start the project. This job does require special tools. For instance you will need a saw, tile cutters, nippers, trowels, spreaders, rubber float, and a leveling board. Professionals also apply tiles to walls using a thick bed of mortar.

Since your wall tiles won't be walked on you can use ceramic or rustic stone. There is also available recycled glass which comes in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes. This is for the environmentally minded individual. Also in this same category you can purchase metal tiles in panels which is lighter. This material can also be hand painted or antiqued to match your decor, but please keep in mind that metal can be harder to install.

Anywhere you would like beautiful art on walls you can put up tile murals. They are especially attractive as a back splash in your kitchen above your counter or stove top. It can make any room in your home unique, special, and very comfortable.

Decorative techniques are used on tiles. Some examples are unglazed which the color can range from light sand to brick red. There are also plain glazes such as flint, white lead, china stone and china clay. These are all ground to make the glazes. They add ground metal oxides to form different colors. Last but not least there are mosaic tiles. These come in a variety of color choices. Yellow, blue, brown, black, turquoise, green and white are the many colors they come in. They are carved and cut into small pieces and placed close together into a prepared pattern. They are plastered and hardened into one large single piece.

Some other techniques are hand painted, carved, tube lining, modeled, and transfer printing.

Porcelain tile is very popular material used in today's homes. It is a newer form of ceramic tile. It is composed of fine porcelain clay that is fired at higher temperatures then ceramic. It is denser, less porous, and prone to take in less moisture and more stain resistant. .The downside is that it is harder to cut then ceramic. Porcelain is suitable for the indoors as well as outdoors.

Marble is more high maintenance and very porous. It needs to be resealed every 1 to 2 years depending on where it is used. For instance in a shower area where there is heat and steam.

Granite wall tiles are stunning and dramatic but very heavy. These can be hard to install because gravity takes over. They must be securely attached but once hung correctly they are very durable.

Cork is another durable and stable material. It is a pure material and it improves indoor air quality. It is elegant and sophisticated and brings warmth to your living quarters.

They take the visual essence of natural light and infused it with a multitude of colors using glass tiles. This method can add pizzazz and charm to your decor.

There is a vast difference in price range for the many different materials that are used in making wall tiles. You can find ceramic tiles priced between .00 and .00 per square foot. Depending on your style and budget glass tiles can be as high as .00 to .00 per square foot.

No matter what choice you finally make, wall tiles all produce the same effect. They inject color, interest and excitement to your life and home.

Authorship and Cultural Identity in Early Greece and China: Patterns of Literary Circulation

In this book, Alexander Beecroft explores how the earliest poetry in Greece (Homeric epic and lyric) and China (the Canon of Songs) evolved from being local, oral, and anonymous to being textualised, interpreted, and circulated over increasingly wider areas. Beecroft re-examines representations of authorship as found in poetic biographies such as Lives of Homer and the Zuozhuan, and in the works of other philosophical and historical authors like Plato, Aristotle, Herodotus, Confucius, and Sima Qian. Many of these anecdotes and narratives have long been rejected as spurious or motivated by naïve biographical criticism. Beecroft argues that these texts effectively negotiated the tensions between local and pan-cultural audiences. The figure of the author thus served as a catalyst to a sense of shared cultural identity in both the Greek and Chinese worlds. It also facilitated the emergence of both cultures as the bases for cosmopolitan world orders.

Missing Dinner Plates - Six Tips to Completing Your China Pattern

!: Missing Dinner Plates - Six Tips to Completing Your China Pattern

You've inherited Aunt Martha's china set or you've broken your tea pot, now what do you do? Here are some tips to help you fill out your china pattern.

1. Identify Your Pattern

The first thing you'll need to know is what you are looking for. You can identify your pattern by looking on the underside of any piece of china. The manufacturer, pattern name and sometimes a pattern number will be visible. If there are no markings, take a photo.

2. Take Inventory

Next you'll need to take an inventory of what items you need to replace (the number of cups and saucers, soup bowls etc. that you need).

3. Register With A Replacement Service

China replacement services are a great place to start when you are looking for an odd piece to fill out your set. You can find them in the yellow pages, online or in the classified sections of home décor magazines. There are both Canadian and American based replacement service companies. Have your pattern details and inventory list handy when you contact the replacement service. Ask to be put on their mailing list. (Most have websites now so you can do this online.) They will need to know what your pattern is and the items you are looking to replace. If there are no markings, send them a photo. China replacement services can also help you add to your set. The service will also let you know by email or regular mail about any other rare pieces that become available. If you are not in any rush, this is a terrific way to find pieces without too much trouble.

4. Become An Antique Hunter

For some, the thrill of the hunt is half the fun. Let your local antique dealers know what your pattern is and the pieces you are looking for. Check out antique fairs, garage sales or flea markets; you never know what will turn up. This approach works for the antique hunters who have lots of time and patience.

5. Bid At Online Auctions

Ebay is a wonderful source for odd pieces of china. Type your pattern details into the search box and up will pop all the pieces currently up for auction. This technique will appeal to antique seekers who don't have a lot of time or patience. Auctions last no more than 10 days. You can place an early bid, watch the auction and see if you win.

6. Mix and Match

Instead of completing an entire set in a single pattern, consider introducing a second pattern that complements your current pattern. For example, a pattern with green and silver intricate scrollwork can be teamed up with a pattern that has a simple silver band.

China Pattern

In the old-fashioned language of flowers, roses have traditional meanings:

Wedgwood Chinese Flowers Or Lenox McKinley: How to Choose a China Pattern

If you're getting married soon, you might want to start thinking about your china pattern. In addition to the millions of other things you have to do, it might seem a little trivial to worry about which china pattern you should select, but it's actually an important tradition for many brides-to-be. In order to help you and the groom choose the best china pattern, below is a guide to help you. Just keep in mind that fine china is a bit expensive and something that you probably won't purchase often, so when selecting a pattern, choose something that is timeless. Keep in mind your interior decor style while you're out choosing a pattern, so it coordinates well.

Tip 1: Your shopping should include the groom as well. Although his interest may not be as high as yours, you can still get his input on patterns and designs. Take notes on what you liked and what you didn't like.

China Pattern

Tip 2: Agree on a price range for your fine china. If you're not including on your registry, you will have to budget for it. Even if it's on your registry, it's not guaranteed that you'll get all of the pieces; guests might be turned off by their high price. Setting a budget and sticking to it is helpful when shopping for fine china.

Wedgwood Chinese Flowers Or Lenox McKinley: How to Choose a China Pattern

Tip 3: Before you select your pattern you should think realistically about how you're going to use it. Is it going to be reserved for special occasions only or are you going to use it daily? If you're going to opt for daily use, you should be careful to choose china that has minimal or no metallic edging. China patterns like the Lenox McKinley or the Lenox Charleston aren't ideal if you're going to be using them heavily. They have beautiful, but delicate metallic detailing in nearly all aspects of the pattern. Instead a pattern like the Wedgwood Chinese Flowers could be ideal.

Tip 4: When in the store, try and visualize the china on your dining room table, or with food on it. Do you like what you're visualizing? Does it coordinate with the rest of your decor? Is its design classic or more modern and trendy? Will it stand the test of time or go out of style in a few years? These are all questions you should ask yourself when selecting the china of your dreams.

Tip 5: It also wouldn't hurt to register for a pattern that you know will be available in the store for years to come. If a plate break 10 or 20 years after your wedding, it's much easier to just go back to the store to find a replacement, than to hunt around for some obscure/out-of-commission pattern.

Tip 6: When placing items on your registry, give your guests the choice of gifts in different price ranges. Register for additional china pieces like gravy boats and sugar bowls, as well as complete five-piece place settings.

The Value of Antique Wedgwood China

Since the company is now slightly over 250 years old, anything made from year one to year 150 is now officially considered to be an antique. Antique certification begins for any item that can be verified to be at least 100 years old and since the Wedgwood Company keeps meticulous records on all of its designs, any piece of Wedgwood can be quickly, easily and accurately dated.

In addition to meticulous record keeping and files, Josiah Wedgwood marked all of his designs with a signature to identify the piece as his and not a copy, and to date it accurately to the month and year it was produced. Many people have gone to great lengths to fraudulently copy these marks to make a newer piece of china look like a piece of antique Wedgwood China for the obvious financial gain.

China Pattern

With the advent of online auctions, antique Wedgwood China has become a hot item and the uninformed buyer may think he's getting a bargain on some antique pieces, when in fact he's buying newer pieces made to look like they are antiques. There are collections of antique Wedgwood China worth millions, depending upon the original owner, the care and maintenance of the collection and its completeness.

The Value of Antique Wedgwood China

The collection once owned by the Queen of England, meticulously maintained, passed down through the generations and currently on display in London, is literally priceless.

The main reason for this huge interest in antique Wedgwood China, other than the obvious financial one, is that people desire to have a complete collection and after many years of less than stellar maintenance, pieces break and have to be replaced.
