Google Explained - 5 Steps to Get to the Top of the Search Ranks Easily

Google is a beast that many people never learn to tame... but having spent several years getting top ranks for various clients, I've found a distinct pattern in the way that the best sites go about getting to the top. And the good news is that if you understand this pattern, you should be able to get your site ranked highly as well. Here are the 5 steps that any webmaster can take to get their site ranked well:

1) Post Individual Pages Of Targeted Content - If you look at all the top ranked sites (Wikipedia.com for example), they all have one thing in common... they all have many pages of specific, targeted content. Google bases its results on relevancy and many webmasters make the mistake of trying to optimize a single-paged website for many different key phrases. This will do nothing but harm you - you need to create as many individual pages of targeted content as possible in order to get the highest ranks.

2) Build "Internal" Links Inbetween Your Own Pages - One of the best ways to get your site ranked highly is to make sure that Google can find all the pages on your site. You should inter-link between as many of your own website's pages as possible in order to get Google looking all over your site. This is a mistake that many people make and is one that can easily boost the ranking of your site with relatively little work.

3) Submit Articles To Get Links From Other Sites - Submitting articles to article directories is a great way to get a higher rank. Not only do you get a strong backlink from a site like EzineArticles.com, but you also get other blogs & websites republishing your content with the link intact. Another good benefit of this is that some articles can actually get onto Google's first page themselves, driving large amounts of traffic to your site with relatively little work on your part.

4) Build A Blog - Building a blog is a great way to boost your search engine presents for several reasons. The most important factor is that if you post regular uPDAtes to a blog, those uPDAtes often get indexed by Google and can sometimes bring in some nice traffic. Blogs also have "RSS" (Real Simple Syndication) feeds which allow other sites to post your content and a "trackback" link. This all works to boost your site's search engine presence and will grow your brand as well. Blogs can be very beneficial and are easy to start - just look for "Wordpress" on Google.

5) Get High Quality Links - Getting links is the main way Google determines where to rank your site. There are a lot of ways to get links, but the best and most effective way to get them is to acquire what are known as "high quality links". These are links from high-PR (pagerank) sites that are a little harder than normal to get. If Google sees your site getting lots of quality one-way, high-PR links, it will shoot your site to the top of the rankings quickly and easily. In order to get the best links, you should either approach established sites in your market or you can use a service which owns a large number of sites that provide these types of links. If you can get one of these services, you'll be able to build as many high quality links to your site as you want and get a higher ranking. Getting high quality links is actually one of the most effective ways to get a high rank on Google and is what many of the top search marketers focus on when getting their top ranks.
